Export Marketing Assistance (EMAS)
Program Purpose
The Export Marketing Assistance Service (EMAS) is a New York
State program to help businesses find sales agents or
distributors abroad. Hundreds of New York State
manufacturers now sell their products in Latin America,
Europe Canada, Asia and Africa because of their
participation in the program. This includes “Made in
New York” products such as scientific instruments, ceramics
adhesives, tool parts, heat-processing systems, processed
foods and many others in demand in foreign markets.
The Export Marketing Assistance Service (EMAS) provides New York companies with customized Agent-distributor searches and market analyses.
Program Highlights
ESD Trade Specialist staff familiarize themselves
with the company’s product line, trade experience and any
other factors relevant to identifying the best possible
parties to represent your company’s sales interests abroad.
Whenever feasible, ESD foreign office representatives travel
to New York to make visits to deepen their knowledge and
understanding of the company’s products, marketing
techniques and distribution channels. ESD’s foreign
office staff will conduct research to identify suitable
importers, distributors and agents and will interview and
screen them to meet participants’ objectives. All relevant
information on the importers, distributors and agents with
an interest in representing the business is then sent to the
New York company. Through this method, EMAS
participants are presented with high quality, qualified
referrals from which they can proceed to formal
representation agreements.
EMAS is especially helpful for small to medium size companies that cannot afford to conduct their own extensive in-market investigation and research to find suitable representation. The program is currently available in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, most of Europe, China, Israel and South Africa.
Eligibility
New York State businesses that aim to enter or expand their sales in foreign markets. Eligibility includes
businesses engaged in manufacturing or services whose New York State production content is at least 51%
Application Process
Companies are accepted into EMAS based on product line and potential in the new market. A company’s participation begins by submitting an
application to the program. After an initial screening and notification of your acceptance into the program, we place you in direct contact with ESD trade specialists in our foreign offices that can appropriately link a business with sales agents, partners and distributors best suited to represent its
interest internationally.
