The COVID-19 Volunteer Mentor Task Force

New York State has partnered with business leaders to create a dedicated group of volunteers across different NYS industries – from law firms to financial professionals – to assist business owners with questions related to the impact of COVID-19 and to provide guidance on the SBA loan applications.

The volunteer mentors are ready to assist.

Is my business eligible?

Business Mentor NY is available to any New York State business or non-profit that employs 500 or fewer employees.

How do I get started?

Visit the website at and set up a profile if you don’t already have one.

There are three sections to complete for your profile. You are only required to fill out the mandatory fields.

1. Create an account

  • Fill out your first and last name, provide an email address and create a password

2. About your venture

  • Type of venture – choose from list
  • Name of venture
  • Describe stage of venture – choose from list
  • What industry best describes your venture – choose from list
  • Provide description of your venture – Below is sample text to copy and paste if you would like to use.
    • I am the owner of a New York State small business that has been impacted by the coronavirus. I am seeking assistance with navigating the federal SBA loan applications for financial assistance.
  • Select three areas of mentor expertise that would be most helpful – choose from list
  • Please provide a description of how a mentor could help you develop your venture - Below is sample text to copy and paste if you would like to use.

How do I connect with a COVID-19 Volunteer Task Force member?

Once you have completed a profile, you can search for a mentor.

  • Click on the arrow “to filter by proximity, language and more show more options”—and, in the text box “special keywords”, type COVID.
  • The search result will bring up the volunteers who are part of the COVID-19 Volunteer Task Force.
  • Find the volunteer or volunteer group that best fits your needs and send them a message to start a conversation.
