Cecil Hotel Capital Improvement Project

The Cecil Hotel Capital Improvement project consists of the extensive renovation of the historic Cecil Hotel, a five-story, 41,000-square-foot building located on the corner of 118th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue. The project included the installation of a new elevator, modernization of an existing elevator, roof repairs, renovation of individual units including bathrooms and kitchens and the installation of new windows.

The project transformed the Cecil Hotel into  a mixed-use development consisting of 89 single room occupancy units, a superintendent apartment, ancillary office space and approximately 7,000 square feet of ground floor commercial retail space; home to the historic Minton’s Playhouse, the 1940’s jazz lounge where Bebop was born.

The Cecil is owned by Harlem CDC and master-leased to Cecil Hotel Development Corporation, a subsidiary of Housing and Services, Inc. (“HSI”).
