Objective

The Commuter Van Stabilization Program aims to assist commuter van operators in New York City through insurance subsidy support for the purpose of addressing cost disparities in the insurance market.

Overview

The Program will grant funds for auto insurance subsidies and commuter van safety, technology, and equipment upgrades that will reduce insurance risk. The program’s temporary insurance assistance, and other support provided to commuter van operators, are intended to stabilize the commuter van industry by helping to reduce the frequency and severity of incidents and mitigate operational and insurance risks and costs.

Eligible applicants can receive up to $40,000 to help offset the cost of annual commuter van auto insurance policies. The program will also reimburse van operators for specific vehicle safety upgrades, including Advanced Driver Assistance, Dash Cams, Safety Belts, GPS Tracking, Safety Signs and Emergency Supplies.

Eligibility

Vans eligible for CVSP funds must have a TLC Commuter Van License or be in the process of securing a TLC Commuter Van License. Insurance subsidy grants will be paid directly to the insured party or the insurer. Funds for safety upgrades will be granted on a reimbursable basis. The full program guidelines are available here.
