Picture yourself – in just one day – hiking an Adirondack mountain, canoeing a Central New York stream, reeling in a catch from the waters of Lake George and sitting behind the wheel at Watkins Glen International raceway.
That’ll be possible this year at a series of outsized selfie stations that are located in the Center of Progress Building at the 2017 Great New York State Fair in Syracuse, and a visitor destination for fairgoers now through Sept. 4.
Not only does the newly created exhibit allow for a quick around-the-state tour, photos shared at #NYStateFairSelfie may show up on video screens during performances by the State Fair’s lineup of photo-worthy acts at Chevy Court Pavilion, including The Beach Boys, Earth Wind & Fire and LeAnn Rimes. They’ll be seen by a record number of fairgoers, especially if this year’s attendance matches or surpasses last year’s record of 1.12 million visitors.
Of course, while the selfie stations provide a visual highlights reel of New York State’s many scenic attractions, there’s nothing like seeing New York State’s sights up close. The fair’s I LOVE NEW YORK pavilion features information about vacation planning in New York State. Visitors can also sign up for daily drawings for prizes that include gift cards and camping passes for New York State Parks, ski lift tickets at several of the state’s scenic mountain resorts and a gift basket with Taste NY artisanal state foods and beverages.
Beyond the photo ops, this year’s State Fair offers plenty to see and photograph, including: an exhibit dedicated to the centennial of women’s suffrage; a Taste NY Marketplace offering the best of the state’s homegrown food and beverages; new rides – including a chairlift and water flume; and much more.
