This awards season has put the spotlight on films that produced or posted in New York State, with a total of 28 nominations, including the Golden Globe Awards and this month’s Academy Awards.

The Oscar nominees, announced by the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts & Sciences on Jan. 24, include 12 nominations for films that were produced or posted in New York State. The nominated projects generated an estimated $15.7 million in spending in the state and approximately 100 new hires. Most of these productions participated in the New York State Film Tax Credit Program’s Film Production Credit and Post-Production Credit programs.

On Dec. 12, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association presented its 74th annual Golden Globe Award nominations, which included 16 nominations from productions that film and post in New York State.  These nominated productions spent a projected $224 million here and employed nearly than 13,000 individuals.

In congratulating nominees last December, Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Howard Zemsky credited New York State’s support for the growing industry. “Thanks to New York State’s Film Tax Credit Program we have witnessed a historic increase in the number of features, series, and pilots filmed here,” he said. “This program has been tremendously successful in establishing New York as a world-class destination to produce film and television and has created hundreds of thousands of jobs and I congratulate this year’s nominees.”
