New York State: A Growth Hub for Diverse Companies and Industries

Company announcements in New York State this fall are as diverse as the industries they represent and the workforce that helps to attract them, reinforcing the state’s top ranking for Fortune 500 HQs and continuing the momentum in business growth and jobs. Here are just a few recent headlines:

Ernst & Young will establish its new U.S. headquarters on Manhattan’s West Side, on 17 floors of the One Manhattan West office tower, creating an estimated 1,152 jobs over the next seven years. EY, a global leader in professional services, cited the location’s state-of-the-art tech focus and environment as instrumental to the move, which will add to EY growth and innovation “wavespace” centers in Union Square and Chelsea.

Amazon has made two announcements in recent months that represent thousands of new jobs in New York State: a 855,000-square-foot fulfillment center on Staten Island that is expected to create 2,250 new full-time jobs; and a new 359,000-square-foot administrative office in Manhattan that is expected to add 2,000 high-paying jobs.

In the North Country, global 3-D printing leader Norsk Titanium AS will establish production of Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems components at its Plattsburgh Development & Qualification Center (PDQC), helping to reinforce Plattsburgh as a center for next-gen aerospace manufacturing. Norsk will add at least 383 jobs over the next five years, with the state investing $125 million to establish the company’s 100,000-square-foot headquarters and the 70,000-square-foot PDQC facility.

The aerospace industry also is getting further lift-off from the Southern Tier expansion of Unison Industries. The global supplier of complex systems for aerospace industries will expand and improve its R&D and manufacturing operations at its Norwich facilities. The expansion project is set for completion in 2021.
