Sweet Success: How EAC Support Helped This Cake Artist Rise to New Heights

As we highlight Black entrepreneurs this Black History Month, we’re showcasing the stories of those who have turned their passion into thriving businesses, with support from our Entrepreneurship Assistance Centers (EACs).

Meet Joanne Laloi, Founder of Entremets Custom Cakes.

From a passion for edible artistry to a thriving business, Long Island-based entrepreneur Joanne Laloi turned her love for cake design into Entremets Custom Cakes. Inspired by a mix of Caribbean and French influences, Laloi’s cakes are both visually stunning and rich in flavor.

The Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) EAC added the right mix of business development ingredients and resources to help Laloi refine her business strategy and expand her customer base. Laloi was recognized in 2024 as one of the EAC Entrepreneurs of the Year. Now, Laloi is giving back by mentoring aspiring bakers and hosting cake design workshops.

Her Instagram feed, filled with her colorful and artistic creations – and some videos of Laloi doing the decorating – offers a taste of her creative custom confections.
