Empire State Development Announces Booz Allen Hamilton Plans to Expand Operations in the Mohawk Valley

Company Expects to Invest $1.6 Million; Will Bring 60 New, High-Skilled Jobs to the Mohawk Valley

Empire State Development today announced that Booz Allen Hamilton, a Fortune 500 firm that employs more than 25,000 people worldwide, intends to grow its footprint in Rome, N.Y., expanding its operations in the Mohawk Valley. Booz Allen is a global technology and management consulting firm with expertise in analytics, digital solutions, engineering and cybersecurity. The company has existing operations in the City of Rome that support the aerospace market with a strong emphasis on cyber technologies, testing and evaluation, and system and software engineering.

ESD President, CEO & Commissioner Howard Zemsky said, “Booz Allen Hamilton’s expansion will continue to grow the Mohawk Valley’s cybersecurity and technology ecosystem, bringing jobs and opportunity to Rome and to the region.”

Booz Allen Hamilton plans to invest approximately $1.6 million to build, equip and outfit a new 14,000-square-foot facility being constructed through a real estate partnership between Griffiss Local Development Corporation and New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation (NYSTEC), located at 99 Otis Street within the Griffiss Business & Technology Park. NYSTEC is expanding its Rome Headquarters location and will occupy the second floor for this new building that is located next to the Air Force Research Laboratory and directly across from The UAS Operations Center at Griffiss International Airport. Booz Allen Hamilton has committed to the creation of 60 new jobs and the retention of 158 existing jobs. Empire State Development is supporting these high-tech jobs with a performance-based, capital grant totaling $300,000.

“We’re proud of the workforce we’ve built in Rome, and Mohawk Valley offers a diverse talent pool that we are eager to tap,” said Brian Gunderson, Vice President at Booz Allen. “We look forward to further drawing on the region’s highly skilled residents as we expand our capacity to serve clients with innovative, transformational technology solutions to meet their mission-critical needs.”

Mohawk Valley EDGE President Steven J. DiMeo said, “Currently, we are seeing unprecedented growth due to increases in AFRL’s technology portfolio with emerging opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Quantum computing. Booz Allen Hamilton is a critical part of the C4I technology cluster at Griffiss and we applaud the company’s decision to expand its presence at Griffiss.”

Booze Allen’s investment is another proof point that Griffiss Business and Technology Park is the center of Mohawk Valley’s growing high-tech ecosystem,” said NYSTEC President and CEO Mike Walsh. “This latest workforce expansion is a welcome addition to Rome’s vibrant technology hub, home to highly skilled, cutting-edge global organizations and engaged local community leaders.”

“The Booz Allen Hamilton project will bring an enormous benefit to Rome and to the cybersecurity/tech ecosystem in the Mohawk Valley, adding to the critical mass of industry entering into this part of the market,” said Elis DeLia, Griffiss Local Development Corporation Chair. “We are seeing an exponential increase in growth both from the Air Force Research Lab and the high technology companies that surround it. Having the space at 99 Otis Street next to the Air Force Research Lab available for lease came at the perfect time for Booz Allen Hamilton to grow their operation.”

State Senator Joseph Griffo said, “I appreciate the efforts of Empire State Development and am looking forward to the new opportunities that this project will bring with it. This expansion will build upon the important work that is already taking place at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park and will help to grow the Mohawk Valley’s reputation as a leader in innovation, technology and development.”

Assemblymember Marianne Buttenschon said, “Booz Allen’s expansion within the Mohawk Valley is an exciting new page for our region,” said Assemblywoman Marianne Buttenschon. “The technology sector is already a pivotal part of our regional economy, and this expansion will mean more good-paying jobs and innovative opportunities.”

Oneida County Executive Anthony J Picente, Jr. said, “Booz Allen Hamilton: “To have a Fortune 500 company like Booz Allen Hamilton invest in its operations in the City of Rome to this extent speaks volumes to what Oneida County has to offer. The technology, UAS and cybersecurity assets we possess at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park continue to pay dividends and foster economic growth throughout the region. This joint venture between Booz Allen Hamilton, Griffiss Local Development Corporation and the New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation is further evidence of this success story. I thank Gov. Cuomo for the funding that has led to the creation of 60 new jobs in this community.

Rome Mayor Jacqueline M. Izzo said, “Booz Allen Hamilton has long been a long-time contractor associated with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). We are thrilled that this international company will add to their business presence here in the City of Rome. The new NYSTEC facility provides the perfect mix of new, modern office space with convenient access to AFRL, Griffiss International Airport and the Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) test site. Already employing 158 people here in Rome, Booz Allen Hamilton will grow their job base by another 60 professional positions supporting the important mission of cyber technologies at the Griffiss Park.
