Empire State Development Announces Opening Of Oishei Children’s Outpatient Center On The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus

$11.5 Million in State Funding Supports the Relocation of Outpatient Clinics

Empire State Development today announced Kaleida Health has opened seven new outpatient clinics at the Oishei Children’s Outpatient Center in Buffalo. The Outpatient Center relocated from Bryant Street to 1001 Main Street and will be connected to the new John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital, which is currently under construction on Ellicott Street. An $11.5 million matching grant was provided by the New York State Department of Health to support the Outpatient Center’s relocation to the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus.

“Today's opening of seven relocated outpatient clinics marks a milestone in the rebirth of New York's only stand-alone hospital for children,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, during a tour of the clinics. “Witnessing this exciting launch is like watching a child take their first steps. The significant state investment in this project demonstrates Governor Cuomo’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a comprehensive and user-friendly experience of the highest quality for the families of Western New York during their greatest times of need.”

The seven outpatient care clinics now located in the Conventus building at 1001 Main Street, include blood draw, Craniofacial Center of WNY, EEG, neurology, dermatology, dental, and ophthalmology at Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.

The remaining Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo outpatient clinics will relocate in April and October 2017. The second phase of the move will take place on April 3 to transition eight additional Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and UBMD Pediatrics outpatient clinics to the Oishei Children’s Outpatient Center. This will include moving the allergy/immunology, Campus Family Pharmacy, cardiology, endocrinology/diabetes, gastroenterology, genetics, infectious diseases, and nephrology outpatient clinics. The remaining 21 Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo outpatient clinics will follow in October 2017.

The final phase will include moving inpatient services and the hospital’s emergency department in November 2017, which will complete the transition and mark the historic grand opening of the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital.

The $270 million Oishei Children’s Hospital will be an integral part of the Buffalo-Niagara Medical Campus, linking with Buffalo General, the Gates Vascular Institute, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and the new University at Buffalo Medical School. With 12 floors and 185 beds, the modern facility will allow the hospital to maintain its status as one of only 43 free-standing children’s hospitals in the nation – and the only one of its kind in New York State.
