Empire State Development Announces Amogy Inc. to Expand Clean Energy Operations in Brooklyn

Climate-Focused Start-Up Company to Add 64 New Jobs

Empire State Development (ESD) today announced that AMOGY Inc., a developer of ammonia-based emission-free, high energy-density power solutions, is expanding its clean energy operations within the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Kings County. The start-up has outgrown its incubator space and will acquire its own location in a nearly $9 million expansion. In support of its continued growth, ESD has agreed to provide AMOGY Inc. up to $1 million in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits in exchange for the company's commitment to create 64 new jobs.

Empire State Development Acting Commissioner and President & CEO-designate Hope Knight said, “AMOGY Inc. is the latest example of a forward-thinking, clean energy company that has chosen to invest in and grow their business in the Empire State. New York State is committed to supporting climate-focused businesses that will help grow a green economy, create climate-focused jobs, and advance the State’s ambitious clean energy goals.”

The expansion will support AMOGY Inc. in developing a novel carbon-free energy system using ammonia as a renewable fuel. AMOGY’s technology aims to unlock the potential of ammonia to power engines by providing a highly efficient, lightweight, compact ammonia processor. The company will be investing more than $1.5M in research and development annually at the new facility to develop a new clean energy system prototype to drive heavy-duty ground, sea, and air vehicles.

AMOGY Inc. CEO Seonghoon Woo said, “We are excited to receive this investment from the Empire State Development. Our core mission and technology for ammonia-powered clean transportation strongly aligns with New York State’s aggressive plan to combat climate change, by harnessing technology innovations to transition from conventional carbon resources to renewable fuels. We are very much looking forward to expanding our presence in the State."

Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation President and CEO David Ehrenberg said, “AMOGY’s expansion, from incubator New Lab to a larger space at the Yard, shows exactly how the Yard ecosystem supports advanced technology companies at every stage of growth. AMOGY is a leader in developing clean energy solutions with sustainability at the core of their research — which is an important mission for the Yard to drive forward.”
