November 30, 2020

Veteran Led Technology Company Commits to Adding 300 Jobs

Empire State Development today announced that Unite USA Inc. (Unite Us), a veteran-led technology company that builds coordinated care networks connecting health and social service providers, has expanded its operations in New York City, with plans to add at least 300 jobs in the region.

Empire State Development Acting Commissioner and President & CEO-designate Eric Gertler said, "The expansion of Unite Us demonstrates that New York is still the premier location for high-tech companies to grow. Even as we contend with the economic impact of COVID-19, companies like Unite Us still invest in growing their operations in New York City;  and the creation 300 new jobs is proof that we will continue to strengthen our New York State economy and that we are 'New York Tough’.”

“Unite Us was started in a Tribeca basement on Murray Street, with a handful of people,” said Bill Perilli, Chief Financial Officer for Unite Us. “Today we have over 100 team members in New York City and approximately 300 nationwide, and we’re growing rapidly.  In fact, since the pandemic started in March, we’ve hired approximately 150 additional team members nationwide to meet the increasing demand for the public health infrastructure we power across the country. We are committed to hiring locally, strengthening the New York City economy, and simultaneously supporting our expanding team nationwide,” he adds.

Founded in 2013 by veterans Dan Brillman and Taylor Justice, Unite Us began by supporting military personnel and their families as they re-entered civilian life, connecting them to social services such as housing, employment, food assistance and mental health. Since then, Unite Us has expanded its technology and solutions to help any person get the services they need, through accountable, secure networks that connect health and social care providers in an outcomes-focused and trackable ecosystem. With its New York City headquarters leading the team, Unite Us has been growing in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and now has networks in over 40 states.

This expansion will invest $1.56 million and add 300 additional employees in New York City over a five-year period. Unite Us has relocated its headquarters to 217 Broadway in lower Manhattan, occupying 24,000 square feet to accommodate this expansion. As Unite Us expands its national footprint, there will be a focus on continued hiring in New York City to support this robust growth. To encourage this project's success and, in exchange for their commitment to create these jobs, Empire State Development has agreed to provide up to $1.25 million in Excelsior Jobs Program Tax Credits, as recommended by the New York City Regional Economic Development Council during Round IX of the Regional Council initiative.

NYCREDC Co-Chairs Winston Fisher, Partner at Fisher Brothers, and Cheryl A. Moore, President & COO of the New York Genome Center, said, “The growth of Unite Us, within New York City could not be more timely as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic and will ensure we are not only supporting a sustainable pipeline of quality jobs from quality companies, but we are making sure that we are connecting people to health services when they need it most.”

Assembly Member Deborah Glick said, “During this extremely difficult time, it is very heartening to have a significant expansion of a Tribeca based company, Unite Us. Focused on providing the means to ensure that communities are connected to healthcare and social care services is always vital, but in the midst of a pandemic is can be lifesaving. The growth of this company demonstrates the strength and resiliency of New York City’s economy and we look forward to their continued success”.

Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer said, "The expansion of the operation of Unite Us is welcome news for all New Yorkers. Today's announcement is a sign of the technology sector's strength in our region. We are grateful for the commitment of Empire State Development and this home-grown veteran-led technology company towards the economic future of our city."
