Empire State Development (ESD) today announced that Oscar Health will establish its new headquarters at One Hudson Square and create 289 new jobs over the next five years as it continues to expand.
Oscar Health is a New York-based, technology-driven health insurance company founded in 2012 that offers individual and small business plans. It currently serves markets in New York, New Jersey, California, Texas, Tennessee, and Ohio and it plans to expand to new markets in Michigan, Florida and Arizona as well as within Texas, Tennessee, and Ohio for 2019, pending regulatory approval. Oscar is one of the fastest-growing health insurance start-ups and was named one of CNBC’s Top 50 Disruptors this year. Oscar raised $165 million in new venture capital in its latest funding round.
"New York is a hub for new innovation, new ideas, and new companies seeking to change the way we do business," said ESD President, CEO, and Commissioner Howard Zemsky. "The 21st century economy is catalyzing the growth of tech-enabled companies across all industries, and New York has the ecosystem, the workforce, and the infrastructure to support and encourage this tremendous growth."
“Oscar’s vision for a technology-driven health care system continues to attract a diverse range of top-tier talent from different backgrounds and industries and has fueled our exceptional growth,” said Kerry Van Voris, SVP of People at Oscar Health. “As we scale Oscar and recruit more employees, we’ve made the exciting decision to move Oscar’s New York offices to One Hudson Square, where we will have more room to support our employees and teams with a beautifully designed space in a terrific, central location.”
To encourage Oscar Health’s growth in New York, ESD offered the company up to $3.5 million in performance-based tax credits through the Excelsior Jobs Program. Oscar will create 289 new jobs over five years in technology, data science, clinical positions and more, and has retained the acclaimed architecture and interior design firm Gensler to outfit its new headquarters at One Hudson Square.
