Film Organizations and Associations

New York State is home to a true production community, a network of people and organizations working collaboratively and cooperatively to help one another in the pursuit of their various personal and professional goals at all levels of the industry across the state. Whether you're a veteran producer in search of a finishing grant for your latest epic, or a film school freshman researching summer internships, there's an organization or association out there that can help. 

Associated Musicians of Greater New York - Local 802 
One of the largest local unions of professional musicians in the world, united to protect the common interests of all musicians by advancing industry standards that dignify our labor and honor and enrich our art.

Association of Independent Commercial Producers
The AICP represents the interest of companies that specialize in producing commercials in various media. 

Association of Independent Creative Editors (AICE) 
Represents the interests of independent creative editorial companies and their editors.  

Independent Fimmaker Project (IFP)
Currently, IFP represents a network of 10,000 filmmakers in New York City and around the world. Through its workshops, seminars, conferences, mentorships, and Filmmakers magazine, IFP schools its members in the art, technology, and business of independent filmmaking.

International Documentary Association (IDA)
The IDA supports nonfiction filmmaking and filmmakers through activities in its major program areas. 

New York State Council on the Arts 
The New York State Council on the Arts is dedicated to preserving and expanding the rich and diverse cultural resources that are and will become the heritage of New York's citizens. 

New York Foundation for the Arts 
Established in 1971 by the New York State Council on the Arts (listed above) as an independent organization to serve individual artists throughout the state, the mission of the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) is to empower artists across all disciplines at critical stages in their creative lives. We do this through three main program areas: cash grants and fiscal sponsorship, online services and resources, and professional development training. 

New York Production Alliance 
The New York Production alliance represents the unified voice of the film, television and commercial production and post production industry in New York City and New York State. Representing 75,000 people, together we promote, grow and strengthen the entertainment indusrty in New York State.  

New York Women in Film and Television (NYWIFT)
New York Women in Film & Television supports women calling the shots in film, television and digital media. NYWIFT energizes the careers of women in entertainment by illuminating their achievements, providing training and professional development, and advocating for equity. 

Post NY Alliance 
Post New York Alliance, Inc. is an association of post production professionals and organizations working within film, television and interactive media creating content and entertainment properties in New York City and New York State. 

Shooting People 
Shooting People started in the belief that the best way to get independent films made and out into the world was to learn from others doing it themselves. Now, with 38,000 members and over 200 films crewed and cast using our services every week, this core principal remains the same and as important as ever.  

Society of Motion Picture & Television Engineers 
The leading technical society for the motion imaging industry, its members include engineers, technical directors, cameramen, editors, technicians, manufacturers, designers, educators, consultants and field users in networking, compression, encryption and more.  

Upstate Independents 
A not-for-profit organization consisting of filmmakers, actors, screenwriters and other media artists based in the Capital Region of New York State. 

Women Make Movies 
A multi-cultural, multi-racial non-profit media arts organization which facilitates the production, promotion, distribution and exhibition of independent films by and about women.
