Construction Updates

The Phase 1 work is the most logistically challenging phase of Moynihan Station construction, as the excavation and construction of the foundations for the new concourse occur directly within the dense track and platform configurations of Penn Station.

The project must avoid any interruption of the more than 1,200 daily train movements by precisely scheduling the bulk of work during a fifty-five-hour period each weekend.  This requires ongoing coordination with the Amtrak and Long Island Rail Road operations and engineering teams.

During 2013, the construction of all foundations for the new West End Concourse will be completed. This will include required relocation of extensive railroad power distribution, communications, and signaling infrastructure through the support of specialized Amtrak labor forces. Temporary construction shields will be built above station tracks to prepare for work on concourse entrance plazas at street level.
