The New York State Tourism Advisory Council (TAC) was established by New York State Economic Development Law Article 5-B. The purposes of the council are to advise the commissioner concerning tourism and to serve as liaison between the state's tourism-related industries and the commissioner with respect to the design and implementation of the state's tourism policies and programs. The council’s powers to advise, assist and recommend are detailed in the legislation.
The New York State Tourism Advisory Council comprises a total of eighteen members; ten appointed by the Governor, three on the recommendation of the temporary president of the Senate; one on the recommendation of the Minority Leader of the Senate; three on the recommendation of the Speaker of the Assembly; and one on the recommendation of the Minority Leader of the Assembly. The members of the council receive no compensation for their services but are allowed their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the performance of their duties as council members.
